Since the start of 2015, he has been the treasurer of the Ogemaw County Republican Party. The treasurer of any political party is an important role that is bound by strict federal laws. All political parties are required to have a treasurer before they can legally conduct financial transactions. The treasurer is responsible for keeping detailed and accurate records of all contributions made to the party, as well as its expenditures. And all contributions or expenditures by any political party committee must be paid or delivered to the party committee’s treasurer.

The treasurer is also responsible for the timely and accurate filing of financial reports to federal and state regulators. Campaign finance law is very specific about the information that has to be documented by the treasurer and reported to them.

Beginning in December of 2014, Dr. Kumar also took a seat on the Ogemaw County Building and Zoning Appeals Board, a post to which he was appointed. He reviews complains about construction plans and zoning laws in Ogemaw County. He was also appointed to sit on the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy as a member of its Foreign Education Standard Committee.

Dr Vijay Kumar West Branch has taken his involvement in Michigan politics a step further by launching a campaign to become a State Representative from the state’s 103rd Congressional District.

Physical Therapy and Arthritis

Dr. Vijay Kumar sees a wide range of patients in his West Branch, Michigan practice. He treats young people and senior citizens, and has provided care to people with obesity. And he is able to help people who are suffering from arthritis, too.

People with arthritis often have stiff joints, mainly because they try not to make movements that will increase their arthritic pain. Unfortunately, this has the effect of making the stiffness and pain worse. But the good news is that people with arthritis can often benefit from physical therapy.

A good physical therapist can teach the patient how to work out the stiffness in their joints without further damaging them. The objective of the treatment is to get the patients back to where they can perform their normal, every day activities without difficulty and with minimal pain, if any at all. The primary focus of much physical therapy is to increase the patient’s range of motion, because a good range of motion is a key to the ability to perform most daily activities. And by building strength in the muscles that move the affected joint, the physical therapist can better stabilize the patient’s weakened areas.

Before Dr. Vijay Kumar opened his practice in West Branch, he was a staff therapist at Rehab Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He also worked at the Caro Center of the Michigan Department of Community Health, where he supervised its rehabilitation department. He earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Boston University in 2012.

Pushing It to the Limit

Dr. Vijay Kumar is a physical therapist whose practice is in West Branch, Michigan, where he also makes his home. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in physical therapy in 1989 and 1991, respectively, and in 2012 received his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Boston University.

He is committed to maintaining his personal fitness. “I am a non smoker and non drinker,” he says. “I exercise every day – five days at the gym – and once a week I do a workout with a professional trainer, who pushes me to the limit.” The health benefits of regular exercise, he knows, are beyond dispute, and they are good for everyone, no matter how old you are, whether you are male or female, and regardless of your physical condition.

You don’t need to push yourself to the limit to reap the benefits of regular exercise, although there are benefits to that, too. When you engage in regular physical activity you burn calories, and that is going to prevent excess weight gain. And the more intense the activity is, the more calories are going to be burned. Even people who can’t seem to find the time to get to the gym or work out at home can do little things that will help, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking to nearby destinations when you might be tempted to drive, or even parking your car at the far end of the lot instead of up close. It all adds up.

Dr Vijay Kumar West Branch  also changed his diet some years back, and says he is more of a vegetarian than he used to be. As he goes about his business in West Branch, he says he has an improved energy level and better overall health.

Physical Therapy – Restoring Health

Dr. Vijay Kumar holds degrees in physical therapy and rehabilitation medicine, and earned his Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy from Boston University in 2012. He has found physical therapy to be rewarding work. “I have worked with a variety of people and their injuries to restore them back to their normal activities of daily living,” he says. As a physical therapist he works with a wide range of patients one-on-one, and helps them to progress through their treatment. His patients may come to him because of an injury or a disease. But whatever the reason, it is his job to help the patient get back as much physical functionality as is possible.

Physical therapists receive extensive training in the movement and function of the human body. The goal of treatment is to promote the ability of the patient to move, to reduce pain, restore function, and to prevent disability. It is an essential part of patient care. The exercises and functional training that physical therapists prescribe to their patients are the keys of their treatment.

Physical therapists are currently in high demand, due in part of an aging baby boomer population. And there are no signs that the demand will slow down any time soon. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment rate for physical therapists will grow by thirty-six percent by 2022.

Dr. Vijay Kumar of West Branch is currently furthering his studies at George Washington University, where he is working on his Masters of Public Health degree.
